What do we do?

Our strategic pillars

Environmental education and awareness

At Defensores de la Naturaleza, we support the teaching-learning process with the purpose of strengthening capacities and generating positive attitude changes. For this purpose, we train leaders, work with educational centers, sensitize visitors to our natural protected areas and the general population, with the intention of sowing the seed of environmental care to new generations.

We have an environmental education program under which we work on formal and non-formal education initiatives to strengthen capacities and promote changes in attitudes regarding environmental care and conservation.

As a formal program, in alliance with the National Council of Protected Areas -CONAP- we are working on the implementation of the curriculum “Education for the conservation of protected areas and biological diversity EDUCONAP. The program aims to promote responsible consumption and conservation of protected areas and biological diversity in educational institutions.

The non-formal programs consist of interventions ranging from awareness-raising talks to training for teachers and community leaders, which are carried out in institutions, communities, and public access spaces. In the 2021-2022 period, we have given 124 environmental education talks with a participation of 3,657 people.

In addition, we promote visits to the biological stations and public use areas, to raise awareness of biodiversity, ecosystem services and other environmental issues. In the 2021-2022 period, we have had 783 visitors to our biological stations and 254,960 visitors to the public use area of the Parque Naciones Unidas.

With our Citizen Environmental Education program, we will meet the following goals by 2027:

Companies will implement an innovative awareness program with a focus on corporate social responsibility
