Important Achievements Sierra del Lacandón

»  Effective protection of the intangible zone of the Park to prevent and reduce the principal threats as fires, natural resources extraction and invasions.

»  Relocation of some groups outside the protected area to clear some of the important areas for the conservation, and to provide better conditions for human development outside the protected area.

»  To strengthen the relations with the communities that have an influence in the protected area in order to promote the dialogue and to negotiate agreements.

»  Support the productive projects of the organized groups that live in the zone and in the areas near the Park such as the backyard orchards, the cultivation of xate, the plantations of izote and the integration of small livestock.

»  Implementation of investigation projects and management of threatened wildlife, mainly macaws and jaguars, and quality monitoring of Usumacinta river water.

»  A cultural inventory of all the protected area which has helped specially the management and conservation of Piedras Negras and El Tecolote.

»  Illegal invasions and the illegal settlement in lands near and inside the protected area.

»  The extraction of natural resources, mainly wood, xate and hunting.

»  Reduction of the forest area due to forest fires, agricultural borders and unsustainable livestock.

»  Illicit activities that help an ungovernability surrounding (traffic of persons and of substances).
